- W69814532 abstract "In the midst of a recent flurry of enthusiasm towards hemorheology as a potentially exciting new field of clinical investigation, one still finds among blood diseases some of the best available models for the study of disorders affecting blood flow in man. Quantitative or qualitative modifications in the various constituents of blood, while providing excellent diagnostic clues, can also lead to rheological disturbances capable of causing specific symptoms of their own. The past fifteen years have been marked by considerable progress in our ability to understand the properties of blood not only as a tissue but also as a circulating fluid. In several well-known hematological diseases, such knowledge has led to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying various symptoms and to the application of more rational and effective therapeutic strategies. It is probably fair to say that hematology in this regard has opened the way to the vast amount of research currently being conducted in various other fields of medicine on the role played by hemorheological disturbances." @default.
