- W69854614 abstract "This chapter describes the basis for introducing time and environmentally dependent properties into classical micromechanical and macromechanical models. Time and environment dependency is introduced into material properties. Environmentally dependent ply properties are used in macromechanical models to anticipate an overall laminate response to mechanical loads and environment. The chapter introduces methods valid for linear viscoelastic or linear elastic materials, and discusses the impact of nonlinear material properties on the mechanical response of the composite. The well-established CLT provides convenient analytical tools to calculate stresses and strains in thin laminates and assumes that a line perpendicular to the middle surface remains straight after deformation and that the normal strain ɛ zz is null. These two assumptions are met in the case of thin plates. The finite element methods and common commercial composite software, which are usually used for thick plates and complex geometries, are also introduced. The chapter presents a case study that examines composite piping specificities and tool examples embracing stress calculations, environmental considerations, and composite material specificities." @default.
