- W69932946 abstract "Economic culture of modern capitalism can be defined as hedonistic. This culture is adequate to modern society of mass consumption, both in the West and in the less developed countries, including Russia. Hedonistic economic culture “treats” as the most adequate such human behavior, which is characterized by their desire to the maximum of current consumption. This type of economic culture to a certain extent is a positive phenomenon, since high growth rates stimulate aggregating dem and, primarily through external financing of investments and development of consumer credit. Appropriate economic hedonism style allows the general public to raise their consumption standards permanently. A substantial number of firms get opportunities of large - scale external financing of their investments. This raises the incentives for long-term economic development. However, these phenomena have its drawbacks, its “negative” direction. And through the study of this “inside out” one can get a true idea of how the hedonistic culture contributes to the global crisis.Firstly, in a society where long-term investment projects are financed through credit, and often a short-term one, financial fragility is accumulated, which can have a devastating impact on the economy.Secondly, hedonistic culture creates the preconditions for the formation of the undervaluation of the future. This phenomenon is manifested either as a short-termism, when agents discount each future subsequent period of increasing the discount rate, or in the form of investment short-sightedness, when agents simply don’t consider the future starting from a certain threshold point in time. This fact may cause the rejection of some long-term assets investments which are im portant for economic development.Thirdly, hedonistic culture stimulates growing opportunism, which may also contribute to long-term crisis trends. Therefore, the deeper behavioral stereotypes, generated by hedonistic culture, are rooted in the behavior of economic agents, the deeper it may be a global crisis." @default.
