- W70254259 abstract "The cine-camera is unique among scientific instruments in that it has the power to modify the fourth dimension. Whether the time-scale has to be stretched, as in high-speed filming, or compressed, the cine-camera is the apparatus of choice. The term time-lapse refers to any filming speed less than 16 frame/sec, which when combined with a projection speed of either 16 or 24 frame/sec produces the desired time compression. In 1939, C. P. Veber referred to time-lapse as the time telescope and likened it to an instrument for boiling down normally imperceptible actions and changes occurring over very long periods of time. Compared with high-speed cinematography, the apparatus needed for time-lapse filming is simple and relatively cheap, and the cost of film stock of little importance. It is a technique that lends itself to improvisation and while there is nothing inherently difficult in it, there are certain points that need watching. The basic requirements of time-lapse filming are very simple and consist of the object to be recorded, a camera (still or cine) to do the recording, a timing arrangement to control both the interval between exposures and their duration, some independent form of illumination, unless the object is self-luminous, and, above all, a person in charge of the apparatus." @default.
