- W7072254 abstract "Windbreaks or shelterbelts have been used for centuries for reducing wind speed and improving microclimate and environment, and increasing crop yields due to windbreak not only can affect the airflow around it but also affect the microclimates through the interaction of the airflow with the exchanges of heat and water vapor. However, systematic studies considered the aerodynamics and mechanisms of windbreak have introduced only within the last few decades. This paper discussed the mechanisms of windbreak effects on surface temperature at different surface conditions: wet surface and dry surface. A field experiment was conduced for clarifying windbreak effects on microclimate, especially on surface temperature by using polyethylene windbreak nets and a numerical simulation model was used for illustrating the observation results. An infrared thermo-graphic thermometer was used to measure the surface temperatures around the windbreak nets and the A2C atmospheric modeling solutions was used. It was clear that surface temperature at leeward side was higher than that at windward side whatever the surface was wet or dry. However, windbreak will mainly increase surface temperature at leeward side by reducing latent heat exchange when surface is wet and will mainly reduce surface temperature at windward side by increasing sensible heat exchange at windward side when the surface is dry." @default.
