- W71052002 abstract "The specific effects of the major salinity components of sea water on the chelation of Pb(II) by organic ligands have been studied. Application of a suitable voltammetric method (differential anodic stripping voltammetry, DPASV) enabled measurements at the realistic ultra trace level of 10−8M for the dissolved Pb(II) concentration due to the excellent sensitivity and the particular general potentialities of the voltammetric approach for this kind of speciation studies. The results obtained for Pb(II)-chelation with the well defined organic ligand NTA confirm and support the general conclusions for trace metal chelation in sea water emerging from our previous analogous studies with Cd(II). The generally operative specific effects are in the first place the pronounced competition of the Ca(II) and Mg(II) excess for chelating organic ligands and furthermore the side effects due to the respective particular labile complex formation of the respective trace metal. A third influence to be taken into account stems from comparable levels of other trace metals forming rather stable chelates, e.g. Zn(II). The general aspects of trace metal chelation by dissolved organic matter are discussed in terms of the two intercorrelated parameters, stability constant and ligand concentration." @default.
