- W724758 abstract "We present results of the radio ecological research (2012) of part of a flood plain of the Techa River (Chelyabinsk Region) polluted by radionuclides in 1949–1956 as a result of activity of the Mayak Production Association. The source of radioactive pollution is in a riverhead Techa, other sources of receipt of radioisotopes to the river (to the settlement the Russian Techa) aren't revealed. The radiation situation in a flood plain of Techa is defined by long-living radionuclides. 90Sr causes the radiation level in the water, while radiation contamination of soils and sediments is due to137Cs. The level of radiation pollution quickly decreases to average sizes in process of removal from zones of a flood plain of the Techa River. Pollution of Techa gradually decreases downstream. Asanovsky marshes are natural accumulators of radiation pollution. The water of marshes has 10 times bigger specific activity on 90Sr, than Techa River water. The capacity of an exposition dose of external gamma radiation on a surface of the soil (closer than 10–20 m from the river) exceeds the values established by sanitary standards (0.3 μSv/h) on all watercourse and quickly decreases in process of removal from the river to sizes, characteristic for Chelyabinsk region. The maintenance of isotope 90Sr in all samples of water exceeds intervention level that according standards of radiation safety of NRB-99/2009 (Appendix 2) is 4.9 Bq/l.
