- W72605514 abstract "Accountants are often necessary in divorce cases. In some states, discussions with their clients are privi leged, and lawyers should be aware of such possibil ities and limitations. Common law rules of evidence recognize certain testimonial privileges. These privileges permit the ex clusion of evidence relevant to a legal action for rea sons of public policy and include communications made between attorney and client and between hus band and wife. Such relationships are so valued by society that their protection outweighs the competing interests of presenting all relevant evidence during judicial proceedings. The common law privileges do not extend to ac counting professionals. However, a minority of states expanded the common law privileges to include com munications between an accountant and his client. These jurisdictions are: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Il linois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mis souri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee." @default.
