• W73018595 abstract "In view of rising prices of crude oil due to increasing fuel demands, the need for alternative sources of bioenergy is expected to increase sharply in the coming years to replace oil and other fossil fuels. Among potential alternative bioenergy resources, lignocellulosics have been identified as the prime source of biofuels and other value-added products. To initiate the production of industrially important products from lignocellulosic biomass, bioconversion of the lignocellulosic components into fermentable sugars is necessary that could be used for ethanol production. This present study reports on the microbial pretreatment and saccharification of the agricultural residues like rice straw,wheat straw and bagasse (raw materials) using a combination of two different fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium (MTCC-787) and Aspergillus awamori (MTCC-6652). Further Zymomonas mobilis bacteria was used for carrying out fermentation of sugars to ethanol production. Among the three raw materials studied the ethanol yield was observed to be the highest in bagasse (2.8 g/l )." @default.
