- W73069084 abstract "Rice blast disease, caused by Pyricularia oryzae Cav. is the most serious fungal disease in rice crop, and this disease has caused significant yield losses worldwide. Sakuranetin which is a low molecular mass compounds will produced by paddy to protected paddy once the paddy is attacked by blast disease. A project was carried out in Plant Technology Laboratory of Universiti Malaysia Sabah to study the effect of aging of paddy on the production of phytoalexin (Sakuranetin) after elicitation by silver nitrate. The objective of this study was to measure the effect of aging on production of phytoalexin (Sakuranetin) by paddy after elicitation by silver nitrate. Paddy leaves were extracted after elicitation by I % silver nitrate solution for 12 weeks at two weeks intervals using different leaf samples to determine the accumulation of Sakuranetin. The highest accumulation of Sakuranetin was in week six (1.32 I¼g ml¯¹) and the lowest in week 12 (0.37 I¼g ml¯¹]). The accumulation of Sakuranetin increased from the fourth to sixth week and then declined as the plant aged for the remaining six weeks. Moreover, week six showed significantly different (p < 0.05) Sakuranetin accumulation in paddy leaves compared to the other four weeks. Beside that, regression test showed that the production of Sakuranetin was affected by aging (p < 0.05, R² = 0.58). The results showed that age has strong relation with the production of Sakuranetin and the production of Sakuranetin decreased as paddy becomes older." @default.
