Beispielsweise kann die monatliche Gesamtnachfrage nach einer bestimmten Zigarettensorte in einer bestimmten Verpackungsform auf der Ebene der Bundesrepublik Deutschland durch zeitreihenanalytische Methoden für quasi-stetige Zufallsvariablen prognostiziert werden [38], da das Produkt ein hohes Nachfragevolumen pro Zeiteinheit aufweist. Die Gesamtnachfrage der gleichen Kombination von Sorte und Verpackungstyp auf Tagesbasis an einem Zigarettenautomaten weist hingegen tendenziell geringe ganzzahlige Volumina auf, wobei unter Umständen an einigen Tagen überhaupt keine Nachfrage auftritt. Für die Bestückung der einzelnen Automaten benötigt man aber fein aufgelöste tagesspezifische Nachfrageprognosen, die aufgrund der Lagerhaltungs- und Automatenbeschickungskosten mit Lagerhaltungsmodellen kombiniert werden müssen. Vergleichbare Situationen finden sich etwa bei Drogeriemärkten sowie bei der Bevorratung von Ersatzteilen, wobei letztere bei kurzlebigen Produkten zusätzlich noch mit einem hohen Verschrottungskostenrisiko behaftet sind." @default.
