- W74586987 abstract "This chapter is a brief overview of the Western medicine and TCM perspectives of the brain sui and the physiological, pathological, and recovery relationship with the cardiovascular system. In TCM, the brain sui is considered the sea of marrow. It dominates life activities by harmonizing all organ systems. It dominates mental acuity by housing intelligence and reason. It dominates the senses through communication with the limbs and organ systems in order to maintain movement. In Western medicine, the brain requires a steady supply of oxygen for consumption and also constantly regulates CO2 levels as part of pressure and blood flow. This autoregulation occurs as the brain shifts pressure constantly to protect from the effects of elevated pressure. Metabolic control is significant to direct brain functioning. So, sympathetic activation mostly serves to assist autoregulation. In pathology, the brain is affected by physiological factors and depends on strong intrinsic factors for survival." @default.
