The Dual Boost is an innovative turbocharger architecture that aims at improving engine transient response without sacrificing overall performance. The Dual Boost turbocharger consists of a double sided compressor wheel driven by an axial turbine. This combination allows significant reduction in rotating group inertia and more efficient operation of the turbine. As a result 33% reduction in time-to-torque over a state-of-the-art conventional turbocharger is realized. In additional to improving speed matching with the turbine, the double sided compressor wheel has more favorable stress distribution over a conventional one that makes it more LCF resistant. The low thrust load of the compressor and turbine wheels allows the application of smaller thrust bearings that help to reduce bearing loss. The rear side of the compressor wheel flows substantially less than the front side near surge, this helps maintain stability of the front side and the overall stage." @default.
