- W74789780 abstract "Crickets use their songs for intraspecific communication in different behavioral contexts. The European field cricket, Gryllus campestris L. has three types of songs. The rivalry song and the courtship song are given after antennal contact with conspecifics; stimulation from sensory inputs (e.g. mechanical, optical) may modulate these songs. Compared to these, the calling song is a long distance communication signal that serves to attract females which are ready to copulate. The calling-song chirp contains four syllables with 5 kHz carrier frequency repeated about every 30 ms (at 20 °C) and the chirp period is 350 ms. The orientated walk to the male by the attracted females is called phonotaxis. This innate behavior is the basis for experiments to clarify which parameters females use to identify the conspecific calling song. The behavioral experiments are also helpful in designing paradigms for electrophysiological studies of pattern recognition in the auditory pathway." @default.
