- W752832955 abstract "Sperone Speroni's first programmatic writing to tackle the problem of the vernacular and its relations with philosophy and logic is the treatise Del modo di studiare. It is, as has been noted, a text full of pedagogical ideas defining a new concept of the humanist intellectual and civic life in the Cinquecento. There are two types of wisdom, one is called contemplative and concerns knowledge of God and nature, the other is active and concerns any virtuous operation of human beings. In Speroni, the trivialization of knowledge is never the result of its being rendered into volgare. The views expressed by Pomponazzi in the Dialogo delle lingue reflect the position of Speroni as a philosopher. Speroni was the great theorist of the Infiammati, as may be evinced from the testimony of his most loyal disciple: Bernardino Tomitano. Tomitano's position is quite clear and shows the influence of Pomponazzi through Speroni. Keywords: Bernardino Tomitano; Cinquecento; Del modo di studiare; philosophy; Pomponazzi; Sperone Speroni; vernacular; volgare" @default.
