- W758629932 abstract "Eye monitoring has been a valuable research tool in psycholinguistics for many years, especially in studies of visual word recognition and reading, as well as auditory language comprehension. Eye tracking has not been much used in studies of language production. One technical reason for this may be that many eye-tracking systems require participants to sit absolutely still. This is often enforced using a bite bar or chin rest that interferes with articulation. Recently, however, eye-tracking systems have been introduced that allow head and body movements. These systems can be used for many purposes, including language production research. The eye-tracking studies show that there is a close link between eye gaze and language processing in the production of spoken language. Speakers naming several objects usually fixate upon each of them in the order of mention. The time speakers spend looking at the objects they name is related to the time required for recognizing the objects and retrieving their names. The available data suggest that it may be possible to dissect the speaker's scan path into a section corresponding to an appraisal phase and a section corresponding to formulation processes." @default.
