- W7643180 abstract "IntroductionThis study is designed to develop a possible therapy for the treatment of end-stage unreconstructible peripheral arterial occlusive diseases based on the pro-angiogenic effect of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) Tat-derived peptides. The viral Tat protein exerts pleiotropic effects on host cells [1]. It is a main transactivator of HIV-1 and suppresses the immune system by modulating the activity of the proteasome [2, 3]. It has a potent pro-angiogenic activity, presumably located to the basic domain of the Tat protein, which causes the development of Kaposi sarcoma in AIDS patients [1]. The aim of this study is to identify the Tat region responsible for the pro-angiogenic effect and test its possible application for therapy." @default.
