- W767038228 abstract "Once Schliemann had declared that he had found Priam's Troy and Agamemnon's Mycenae, however, the idea that Homer in some sense preserved knowledge of events that could be situated in a Bronze Age world came to exercise a powerful hold on the scholarly and popular imagination. Indeed, Schliemann's approach, although not his archaeological methodology, laid the foundations for the systematic study of the archaeology of prehistoric Greece. In the wake of his discoveries, works such as Lorimer's Homer and the Monuments and chapters in Wace and Stubbings' Companion to Homer examined in great detail the relationship of the Homeric corpus to a 'real', material world. An important feature of overseas connections in the context of possible relationships between Homer's poetry and the Bronze Age cultures of Greece is the likelihood of Mycenaean involvement in coastal western Anatolia, particularly the area of Troy. Keywords: Agamemnon's Mycenae; bronze age; Greece; Homer's poetry; Mycenaean period; Priam's Troy" @default.
