- W76974561 abstract "INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is the most frequent neoplasia in women not only in Brazil but also around the world with increasing incidence and mortality rates. The descriptive study of the prognostic factors in the northeastern population is practically non-existent, and this impairs in some way the obtainment of markers that can interfere with the prognosis and evolution of these patients. This work aims to characterize the histopathological prognostic markers of the invasive ductal breast carcinoma among a group of patients who underwent mastectomy from 2002 to 2011 in the southwestern region of Bahia state.METHODS AND MATERIALS: The data collection was performed in a computerized database of a Histopathology laboratory which is the only one in the region and provides services for all towns in the southwestern of the state. A survey of the anatomopathological reports belonging to female patients with consecutive histopathological diagnosis of invasive ductal breast carcinoma surgically treated between 2002 and 2011 was done. A descriptive study of the following variables: patient age, tumor size, histological grade, metastasis to the lymphonodus.RESULTS: Between 2002 and 2011, 179 patients underwent mastectomy with axillary resection of the content and histopathological diagnosis of ductal infiltrating carcinoma of the breast. Regarding the age, 6.5% with less than 35 years of age, 21. 20% with between 36-50 years, 43% between 51-70 years and 28. 4% had more than 70 years of age. Concerning the tumor size, 27. 10% of the tumors were smaller than 2 cm, 48.50% were between 2-5 cm and 23. 60% more than 5 cm. At the histological level, the values ?? found were 13. 70%, 22. 80% and 48% for grade I, II and III, respectively. In relation to the lymphonodus involvement, 58. 65% of the women developed axillary metastasis.DISCUSSION: Prognostic markers of histopathological parameters of breast cancer are likely to be characterized at diagnosis and serve as a predictor of the patient’s survival. In the northeastern population there are few studies describing these factors, which are essential in the prognostic evaluation of patients and interfere with their treatment. Thus, this descriptive work is important to characterize the prognostic factors in a group of women, and may not only contribute to the treatment but also to the future prevention policies." @default.
