- W77950087 abstract "Introduction. A seizure is a paroxistic discharge of the cortical neurons with various manifestations. There are multiple causes of seizures and, often the toxic cause is not considered. The paradogic intoxication after administration of antiepileptic drugs can induce seizures, and can increase their presentation with substances such as, phenytoin, carbamazepine, benzodiazepines and vigabatrin. An acute intoxication with carbamazepine can produce seizures because of its similarity to the chemical structure of triciclic antidepresives. Case report. Female patient of 2 years 8 months of age whose consultation reason was first time seizures, alterations of the state of alert, ataxia and vomit; settling down, with base to the differential diagnoses (electrolytic dysfunctions, infectologics, primary dysfunctions of the central nervous system and toxico-logics), the diagnosis of convulsive crisis of secondary toxic origin to carbamazepine. Conclusion. The intoxication for anticonvulsive can be observed in the clinical practice but it requires to carry out a wide differential diagnosis with the purpose of avoiding erroneous diagnoses." @default.
