- W78117310 abstract "Pavements engineering has been one of the emerging areas in the application of nanostructured materials due to its ability to functionalize different solid surface materials like asphalt by adding properties such as water repellency, anti ice, among others. The ice adhesion of this correlated with the chemical surface properties of asphaltic materials and this has consequences and impacts, mostly in temperate countries, particularly in regard to road safety and mechanical strength of the pavement. In this work, has been studied and developed a new asphalt material with superhydrophobic properties and anti-icing using nanostructured materials as a surface modifying agent. The surface asphalt material was nanocoated by wet chemical spray process and characterized by particle size measurements using a Malvern Instruments nanosize, the morphological and physical -chemical properties were characterized by SEM, EDS and STEM. Its hydrophobicity characterization was performed by contact angle measurements using distilled water (5 µL ) and anti ice behavior was measured between 0°C to -10oC. The samples were also subjected to abrasion test according to EN 10974-8. The results showed that the asphalt material showed an excellent performance superhydrophobic, with contact angle around 163o, as well as superhydrophobic and anti-icing property even after the abrasion test. This work represents a significant advance in the application of superhydrophobic surface and anti-icing and an important development in road engineering." @default.
