- W78162530 abstract "This study was done on various samples of ampangabeite and samarskites mostly by the combined x-ray diffractionfluorescence method and also by differential thermal analyses. The x-ray fluorescence analysis was used for the determination of the chemical composition of these metamict minerals. The x-ray fluorescence pattern obtained on the inner zones was identical for both minerals, taking account of possible ionic replacement. For the weatuered zone of these minerals, a pronounced lixiviation of Y and also U, Ca, and the other rare earths was observed often with an enrichment of Pb. The diffraction patierns taken after recrystallization were identical for the inner zones of ampangabeites and samarskites and also for the weathered zones. In the case of the inner zones especially, the fundamental structure of tue pyrochlore-microlite-betafite series was found in the diffraction patterns with extra lines characteristic of samarskites. The differential thermal analysis shows for the inner and non- weathered zones of both minerals an exothermic peak at 710 to 715 deg C and for the weathered zones a peak between 670 and 685 deg C. For the weathered zones of ampangabeites of samarskites, a new chemical formula is proposed: AB/sub 2+x/ STAO,(OH)/sub 2/!/sub 6 + 2.5x/ nH/sub 2/O, wheremore » A = TY, TCe, U, Ca, Fe, Th, Pb, and B = Nb, Ta, Ti, Sn. This formula takes account of the hydration and the lixiviation of some chemical elements. This study shows the identity of ampangabeite with samarskite. (auth)« less" @default.
