- W78473609 abstract "This paper describes solutions developed to make the water circuits comply with the following main design constraints: disruption induced magnetic loads, arcing, toroidal electrical resistance, thermal expansions, UHV, corrosion resistance, transition weld, thermal stresses, vibrations, hydraulics, thermal shocks and remote handling operations. In particular, three of these solutions are novel and suitable for consideration on other tokamaks. First, an in-vessel ceramic electrical break inserted in the water pipe and able to carry high mechanic loads is being developed as the solution to stop current flow through components thus avoiding magnetic loads. Second, an electrically insulated pin able to withstand high mechanical loads has been developed as the solution to prevent shorting of the vacuum vessel toroidal resistance. Third, manufacturing solution of welding the bellows to its end pieces by internal weld so the weld surface in contact with water is smooth and flush. This practice lowers the risk of corrosion by avoiding a crevice which can retain water. Impurity influx into tokamak plasmas can lower plasma performance. One candidate concept for active control of impurities for future fusion reactors is the pumped divertor. The New Phase of JET involves implementing a pumped divertor on JET (now underway) with plasma experiments planned to start in 1993." @default.
