- W788291623 abstract "Objective To explore correlation between serum B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) level and heart failure (HF) classification. Methods Serum BNP level in 368 patients was tested bedside by fast quantitative method. America Biosite-Triagoe heart-failure/myocardial-infarction devisor. Furthermore blood BNP of 20 patients was retested after two weeks of anti-HF treatment. T test and Chi-square test were used in statistic analysis. Results Serum BNP level correlates well with America NHYA CHF classification (P＜0.05). The higher BNP level is at diagnosis, the worse heart failure is likely to be. Serum BNP test is more sensitive than EF level test on echocardiogram in reflecting CHF severity. After twenty patients with class Ⅲ, Ⅳ CHF were given anti-CHF treatment for two weeks, all of their serum BNP level reduced obviously, but failed to reach normal level. Conclusion Plasma BNP not only can be an early diagnosis index, but also can identify HF severity and efficacy and predict its outcome.
