- W78913412 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses all that a tumor cell must endure to survive in vitro . L-15 medium is an ideal transport medium. As it is bicarbonate-free, there is minimal fluctuation in pH during transit even when the specimen is exposed to the atmosphere. For short-term cultures, almost any good growth medium will suffice if the specimen is properly transported and processed. Medium M-3 is free of steroid hormones except for the minimal amounts present in the low percentage of fetal bovine serum added to the medium. For purposes of developing cell lines, it is simpler to work on media improvement on plastic than in soft agar. Cell viability decreases when cells are exposed to this treatment for longer than 6 h, although some survive for as long as 24 h. While some cell lines continue to undergo clonal evolution after they have been established, others appear to be stable with respect to drug sensitivity over numerous passages. Such lines can be useful for studies of cancer biology and for analysis of drug resistance." @default.
