- W789618625 abstract "A number of reported accident-width relations are compared in terms of the relative difference in accident rate between a given width standard and an ideal base standard. Results from three US studies show a high level of consistency. Results from studies in other countries are less consistent, which presumably reflects differences in other factors such as driver behaviour and attitudes, vehicle fleet, and traffic engineering treatments. It is suggested that the relative accident rate-width relations derived from the US studies would be reasonably representative of conditions in the more populated regions of Australia, and that they could be used to extend limited local data on the safety implications of width standards.
