- W792298770 abstract "At INRETS-LEOST, several on-board radar sensors have been studied to avoid rear collisions on main roads and motorways. This paper summarizes the work done on pulsed radar mock-up. The used frequencies are 10 and 60 GHz. The discussion focuses on microwave sensors, signal processing, and experiments on roads. Microwave sensors are studied at IEMN-DHS. They use the Quasi-optical technique in which all front-end components are integrated on an active antenna. The beam is focused by a directive passive antenna, a parabolic dish, or a Fresnel lens. Digital processing is studied at LEOST. The output signal of the sensor is converted in digital data and computed in real time by a microprocessor. After processing, the following data are stored on a portable personal computer: the range of echoes, their relative speed, the equipped vehicle speed, the safety braking distance, and the alarm output. During the experiments, the road in front of the car is filmed on a video tape recorder, with time markers from the computer. Then, for the analysis, the video tape and the data from the computer are simultaneously watched. This database is used to work out the alarm processing in order to reduce the false alarm rate. The final aim of this work is to present a simple and more reliable message of the danger level to the driver. A lesson is drawn from the trials and its consequences on the continuation of the project is discussed." @default.
