- W792566518 abstract "We characterize the instabilities arising on a ring using a particle method known as vortex where an axisymmetric remeshing avoids any spurious modes. The ring is initialized with a Gaussian profile and the simulation is performed for several turnover time in order to reach a quasi-steady elliptic axisymmetric ring. A perturbation corresponding to the most unstable azimuthal wavenumber is then superimposed. The growth rate and structure of this primary instability mode is then determined. We have identified the following evolution as a secondary instability. Here again growth rate and structure have been investigated.
