- W794240 abstract "Full assessment of coronary atherosclerotic disease necessitates not only the determination of symptoms, but also the coronary anatomy, collateral circulation patterns and left ventricular function. The coronary arteriogram does not measure regional myocardial perfusion at the capillary level, while the left ventricular angiogram cannot distinguish between reversible and irreversible myocardial dysfunction. Such evaluation is becoming more important as the number of patients being considered for aorto-coronary by-pass surgery increases. The delivery of additional blood to heavily scarred myocardium is a needless procedure. Myocardial perfusion as measured by the labelled albumin particle method (1, 2) is a promising technique which appears to be capable of distinguishing between scarred myocardium and ischemic, yet viable, myocardial tissue.
