- W79559506 abstract "I have approached this subject from a point of view that I believe that colour is relevant, important and to be enjoyed by anyone, at any stage of our lives. I have worked as a designer in the fashion and textile industry for over 30 years, specialising in colour and printed textiles, for international fashion and interior manufactures and retailers. Throughout my career, colour has been one of the most important and enjoyable tools of my trade. Although I have worked with colour for a considerable time, it is a subject that continues to fascinate, puzzle and interest me. It surprises me how little is really known about colour, both by the general public and the colour specialists in science and the arts. Colour is a major part of our lives; we use it and need it for many daily purposes. Colour can be a language to keep us safe – by identifying colours we make appropriate decisions, think about crossing roads and changing plugs. Every day we make many decisions about colour, the clothes we wear, and the food we eat. We are so familiar with colour that we often take its value, influence and presence for granted. Colour and how we perceive it is physically different for every individual, therefore it is not surprising that it is viewed as a very personal subject; it is like an unexplored fifth sense – there is still a huge amount to learn and discover about colour. The Society of Dyers and Colourists has an excellent website that provides extensive information on colour science and theory. This chapter looks at the process that colour designers use to work with retailers to colour products." @default.
