- W79620070 abstract "Bright light can make large changes in the amplitude of circadian rhythms as well as shift their phase. When amplitude is much reduced, the phase shifting ability of light is greatly enhanced, in a manner which is most readily comprehended by means of vector diagrams. To obtain large phase shifts, light is used most effectively when the stimulus reduces amplitude at the beginning of the stimulus episode. Stimulus strategies which embody strong (Type 0) resetting can be very powerful, but to work they require careful adherence to a regimen of extended light exposures. A complete inversion of rhythm phase (a 12 hour phase shift) is possible with 10,000 lux episodes of 8 hours duration or of 6 hours duration on two successive days. Briefer exposures producing a succession of small shifts (cumulative type 1) can achieve the same result but may require several more days." @default.
