- W79689694 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter elaborates the transplantation antigens of man. HL-A antigens are expressed at the surface of the cells in most tissues and cell lineages, although with different intensity. HL-A are expressed on spermatozoa but probably not at the surface of unfertilized and fertilized eggs. They also seemed to be absent from the trophoblast giant cells—the fetally derived component of placenta. They are however, well expressed in most tissues of early embryos. Contrasting views have been reported on the mode of distribution of HL-A antigens at the cell surface, whether evenly spread or concentrated in patches, as shown for murine H-2. It is shown that there is competitive inhibition for absorption of the specific antibodies between factors of the two series when they are carried on the same chromosome but not between factors of the same, or of the other series which are carried on homologous chromosomes. This cis-trans position effect would suggest that the products of the pseudoalleles in cis have a close location on the cell surface, such that steric hindrance for the respective antibodies takes place." @default.
