- W803131300 abstract "The leaf-cutting ants of the genus Atta and Acromyrmex stand out as agricultural pests due for its ability to cutting and transport of vegetables for use like substrate for the symbiotic fungus. In this way, many toxicological studies are conducted in attempt to control these ants. In this sense, the study was aimed to evaluate the toxicity of Thimethoxam, solubilized in acetone + oil on workers of Atta sexdens rubropilosa, as well identify morphological changes in PostFaringeal Glands, Malpighian tubules and ventricles of these ants in groups with and without the treatment of active ingredient Thiamethoxam. Were done bioassay to define the concentration of Thiamethoxam (0.0001% 0.00005% 0.00001% and 0.001%) for performing morphological analyzes in tissues proposed. The results of toxicity tests showed that the Thiamethoxam activity has delayed action to all concentrations, suggesting to be an active ingredient effective to control leaf-cutting ants. By results, the concentration 0.00005% was ideal for carry out histological analyzes, because showed satisfactory median with 5 days of experiment. Was conduct a new test with control groups (pure diet and acetone + oil) and group Thiamethoxam 0.00005% for morphological analysis of Post-Pharyngeal Glands, Malpighian tubeles and ventricle. The results showed that the Thiamethoxam 0.00005% caused more significant changes in ventricle than in other tissues. Was possible to note formation of vacuoles cytoplasmic that may be indicative of cell death. In the Post-Pharingeal Glands was note clutter in the cytoplasm, however, the nucleus remained intact. The Malpighian tubules showed changes in the amout of mineralized granules, suggesting that this tissue would be increasing their activity metabolic to remove wast metabolic from the Thiamethoxam. These results suggest that initial action of this active ingredient happens in ventricle and later in other tissues as the post-pharyngeal glands and Malpighian tubules." @default.
