- W805938249 abstract "Aspects of high-speed train design which will have to be addressed if the potential to travel at up to 500kph is to be realised are considered. These include motive power engineering, brake systems, aerodynamics, track surface loading and energy transmission. The effect of varying conditions at the borders between European countries is discussed and recommendations made for future developments. Impacts that high-speed trains have on the environment and measures which can be taken to mitigate them are examined. At 300kph wheel noise predominates and suggestions are made for improving aerodynamic shape, wheel and line surfaces and wheel absorbers. Aerodynamic optimisation of the current collector, connecting doors between coaches and covering the running gear will counter the aerodynamic noise predominating over 300kph. The interference caused by train control types of ohmic, inductive and capacitive control types is considered and recommendations made for improvements.
