- W807978437 abstract "This article discusses how U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) new employee exemption regulations will affect the construction industry. The new regulations modify the salary and duties tests used to determine which employees are entitled to receive mandatory overtime pay. DOL estimates that construction employers will spend over $63 million to review the final rule and update their policies, and another $4 million to reexamine and reclassify covered jobs. The new regulations make it clear that white-collar exemptions do not apply to blue collar workers who perform work involving repetitive operations with their hands and physical skill and energy. The regulations will affect foremen, superintendents, field engineers, estimators, project managers and computer personnel. One major change in the new regulations is the increase in the minimum salary for exemption from $155 per week to $455 per week. The new regulations should prompt employers to review salaries, audit payroll practices and train payroll department employers, update job descriptions and document exemptions." @default.
