- W808617549 abstract "This chapter discusses how Paul simultaneously turned the God-language inwards. Paul applies it to Christian communities in order to interpret their identity. More than non-Christian Jews, Christian were affected by Paul's proclamation that salvation was for Jews and Greeks. The chapter argues that when Paul uses this phrase in conjunction with God-language, he intends to reinterpret the identity of Christian and create a common basis for self-understanding among all Christians. It is gathered that Paul saw a direct link between the Christian message and the visible expression it found in a community of believers that encompassed both and non-Jews. In Paul's interpretation, traditional statements about God were employed to legitimate his missionary practice as well as the Christian churches that resulted from that practice. Paul referred to God as the absolute authority behind them and he could therefore claim universal acceptance of them. Keywords: Christian churches; Christian Jews; God-language; Greeks; non-Christian Jews; Paul's interpretation" @default.
