- W80892621 abstract "An approach based on possibility theory, has been recently proposed by the authors for the representation of precisely, partially or fuzzily known attribute values in relational data bases. A query language, where fuzzy specifications of requested properties or fuzzy comparators are allowed, and which is based on an extended relational algebra, has been developed and implemented. The main characteristics of this approach are first recalled in the paper. Another important issue related to the use of fuzzy information is the problem of analyzing the contents of a fuzzy relational data base and of summarizing them (when possible) by means of statements of the form “Q X's are A” or “Q X's which are A, are also B” where the X's are items of the data base, A and B denote properties (possibly fuzzy) and Q is a universal or a numerical, or a linguistic quantifier such as A, “eighty percent”, “almost all”, “most of”, “only few”, … Such summarizations can be obtained from the set of possibility distributions representing our knowledge concerning the value of attributes for the different items of the data base. Different ways for deriving such summaries are presented. Thus very synthetic views of the contents of a data base can be provided to users, using possibly vague predicates and linguistic quantifiers." @default.
