- W816796988 abstract "Urban toll expressway network performance is statically and numerically examined through a pricing model. The model is defined by three submodels--road system, traffic, and pricing. The pricing model is defined as follows: optimize the expressway network spread with the toll rate, which is assumed to be flat, on a given criterion under the constraint that a balance must be struck between revenue and cost. Two of the criteria are travel-hour and trip-number. The first is derived from vehicle-hours integrated over the road system and the second by the aggregate number of car trips diverted onto the expressway from the surface. The road system is defined by dense radial and ring surfaces where a cross radial expressway is set with one or two rings. The traffic model consists of two parts--trip generation-attraction and traffic behavior. The second part includes algorithms for travel speed, route choice, trip diversion, and convergence. Major aspects of performance are summarized as (1) simultaneous optimization of the network spread and toll rate is reachable on each criterion, (2) trip number criterion leads to smaller network spread with lower toll rate while travel-hour criterion leads to the opposite, and (3) vehicle-hours integrated on the expressway network and the surface decrease and increase, respectively, roughly linearly with toll rate." @default.
