- W818495988 abstract "Within the constant search for economy, the emphasis in design and construction of buildings has moved away from material efficiency towards greater time saving. Detailing of structural elements should fulfil the promise which the selection of a structural system holds. This paper presents measures for material and time saving in the construction of reinforced and prestress elements and tall precast columns. Tall precast columns rising well above floor to floor construction provide instant strength, and removes the concern for sufficient strength at early loading. Differing column and beam connections are discussed as well as the fixing mechanism present. Examples for the use of this detail are given. Significant saving in time, and material may be gained by increasing prestress in the endspan. This involves termination of prestress strands within the first internal span. Practical considerations of how this may be accomplished are discussed and examples of actual use are presented. With the constant danger of anchorage failure, mesh is proposed to reduce steel congestion and improve concrete compaction in the critical tendon anchorage zone. The increase of drape of the prestress cable is addressed which may reduce strand spacing and therefore economy. Fire aspects of bandbeams are covered with reference to reducing cover. Detailing to provide fast construction is discussed with examples drawn from the aser project, Adelaide (a)." @default.
