- W822340383 abstract "This paper provides an introductory guide for engineers to the increasing use of control of servo hydraulic equipment in vehicles, for example for active suspension and steering systems. The expression closed loop means that an information is established between an action to achieve something and the degree to which it has been achieved. The action is provided by an actuator, and a transducer measures its result; is the overall way in which action is modified in response to a transducer's measurement. If gain is too low, poor performance results; if gain is too high, instability results. The most important part of specifying a control system is defining the characteristics of the function to be controlled, in dynamic terms, and identifying appropriate parameters that can provide control. Many control problems can be solved using a three-term gain arrangement called proportional integral differential (pid) gain. In electro-hydraulic servo systems, like those now being developed for vehicle active steering, a servo valve is needed to convert the electric signals into hydraulic flow and/or pressure. Most hydraulic servo systems are designed to operate from a constant pressure source.
