- W825339675 abstract "How intelligent are current ITS Systems? Has ITS changed anything or at least very much in the last 10 years? 10 years ago the concept of ITS was to collect data, without much regard to how that data would be aggregated, fused or how it would be ultimately used, leading to huge collections of unmanageable data which has limited if any value in today’s operational environments. Currently, data is being collected and aggregated mainly with a specific job or activity in mind. However, is the concept of ITS systems, just collecting data with an individual use in mind, or should it be for a more holistic purpose? ITS must start to embrace technologies, must start to identify and push the boundaries of not just collecting data, but identifying how data can be best used within an operational environment. Enter ICM. ICM is a new concept where a complete network is identified with an aim of managing the network from an operational and efficiency point of view. ICM leverages many new concepts, including the integration of data, the use of data to create a predictive environment, the utilization of data to create trend analysis, and then use that information to actively manage the environment. ICM solutions are also utilizing Decision Support Systems to assist operators in not only identifying issues but assisting them to make the right decision as to how best to manage the network. The question is, can this be taken to the next level, using current technologies, so that not only can a system help to identify an issue, but that the system can also actively identify the best course of action? Then in the event of an issue deliver real-time and predictive information to the individual driver, providing them with their best course of action, to complete their trip in the best possible time. This solution requires a new approach to ITS, it requires an integrated approach to managing incidents, it requires a complete historic database taking account of both short and long-term data. It requires an integrated decision support system and an integrated simulation engine. However, all these items should be delivered as part of an Integrated Corridor System. In conclusion this presentation will discuss: Creating self-aware systems is a reasonably simple transition from an Integrated Corridor Management system, and should be seriously considered to provide the tools needed for an operator to actively manage the environment. Creating self-healing solutions must be delivered in a staged approach to ensure that there is full confidence in the information being disseminated. But, that within a SmartCity environment, that this is absolutely essential if full control of the system is to be provided, in advance (in many cases) of incidents actually being realized. The system thus provides an environment which is always actively assisting the individual rider, driver and shipper." @default.
