- W82607514 abstract "The majority of studies about estrogen therapy is in effect about synthetic estrogens and their administration and dosage. Synthetic estrogens raise blood triglycerides while cholesterol levels change very little after treatment with ethinyl estradiol. Synthetic estrogens and certain progestational agents have opposite effects on triglycerides depending on the type of progestational agent. Conjugated estrogens on the other hand are considered natural estrogens since they only slightly modify cholesterol levels. Since synthetic estrogens augment hyperlipidemia they should never be prescribed for people with a risk of vascular accidents. Estradiol-17 beta seems to have a beneficial effect on the regulation of glucid metabolism improving the tolerance to glucose both in healthy and in diabetic patients. Synthetic estrogens on the contrary have a diabetogenetic effect and although their mechanism of action is unclear they should not be prescribed to diabetic patients." @default.
