Chawner, his wife Emma, and family as they came in contact with the Hebden Mission and were sent to South Africa as Canada's first Pentecostal missionaries. In particular, it pays attention to the character of the Hebden Mission as a missionary sending agency and the role of Spirit baptism, visions, Spirit leading, and signs and wonders. The chapter focuses on offering a social scientific explanation for understanding the relationship between Pentecostalism and early mission activities as well as offering a description of the work of Charles W. Chawner. The relationship between Pentecostal mission activity and other missionary developments in Canada needs some discussion for contextual reasons.
