- W827463323 abstract "This chapter indicates that nationalism on the international level generated a further set of binary divisions and a clear-cut distinction between friends and enemies, in which certain qualities were attributed to one set of nations and the converse to the other set. If a nation is conceived as part of a certain bloc (insider), it is conceived of sharing qualities with the fellow-nations of that bloc. If a nation is conceived outside that bloc (outsider), it is conceived of being deprived of the qualities of the respective bloc. Insiders were friends, whereas outsiders were enemies; belonging to a bloc meant the rearticulation of national identities at home. The chapter explores the national discourse of the BCP on the international level.
