Considering a client's difficulties in the light of network characteristics may help suggest intervention strategies. If a client complains of loneliness and is found to be isolated, common sense would indicate that network supplements might be useful. Non-professional helpers or peer counsellors have been employed in this way to relieve isolation. If the client is not isolated but has low network density or multiplexity, encouraging the person to join clubs or become involved in support groups might make the network more close-knit and increase the number of intimate ties. Concepts and measures could provide a logical basis for some interventions in network-related problems. In practice, other important factors may need to be considered as well. Using network concepts, some features of social involvement might be clearly defined, conceptualized, and exposed to empirical tests. Social network concepts might be important not only as a more explicit guide to action. They may buttress some of the scientific foundations of clinical practice." @default.
