- W833716267 abstract "In this study, mobility effects for five socio-economic scenarios are presented. These scenarios are mainly defined on two dimensions, namely strong and weak economic growth and transport policies in which public transport is strongly stimulated or moderated. The scenarios are mainly analysed with respect to train and car usage. The exploration was conducted using the Mobility Explorer 5.0, a quick response computer model to assess medium-term mobility effects for passenger and freight transport for the Netherlands as a whole. In general, the scenarios show positive developments for rail passenger transport. Based on the assumptions, an 5-10% increase in 2010 in comparison with 1997 is certainly realistic. However, threads exist, such as the expected strong increase in car ownership. This has negative effects on train usage. Apart from exogeneous developments, the report identifies developments with important mobility effects on which NS (Netherlands Railways) Reizigers has a direct or indirect influence. Results show that train tariffs and travel time developments have a strong influence on the train transport demand. Also, the introduction of road pricing and a levy on each kilometer travelled by car are expected to cause a strong increase in rail passenger. The impression arises that car usage increases slower and train usage increases faster than previously expected." @default.
