- W835135988 abstract "This chapter discusses prophetic exegesis in Isaiah 65-66. It examines the literary character of Isaiah 65-66, including its structure, its place in the book of Isaiah, its citation of earlier Isaianic texts, and its literary integrity. It is noteworthy that the initial address to the heavens and earth in Isa 1:2-31 becomes the basis for the announcement in Isaiah 65-66 that YHWH will create a new heavens and earth. Isaiah 65-66 point to the purging of Zion that dominates the presentation of the book of Isaiah, and indicates that the righteous who hold fast to YHWH will stand at the center of the new creation whereas the wicked will perish. As Wolfgang Lau notes, the literary forms employed in these chapters are those of oral prophetic announcement, but the references to earlier parts of the book of Isaiah as scripture demonstrates that this material is a form of literary prophecy.
