- W835755051 abstract "This article describes how the author has set out to find the reasons for the hold up in the use of flowing concrete despite its many advantages. He lists these advantages: its being easily poured into awkward places; time saving; having improved strength; producing better work, more quickly for less money and involving fewer manual workers so less money is paid out in wages. It is also reported as being safe to use in all concrete work. He explains how flowing concrete is made by adding a water-soluble liquid super plasticiser to ordinary concrete. These additives are claimed to be completely harmless, and tools used with it can be easily cleaned in water. The additives have a long storage life. The author found that it has been little used in Britain to date and that the reluctance to its use is due to relatively high additional costs per cubic metre, as wages are lower in Britain than on the continent, and so the use of manual workers is more economical. There is also lack of knowledge of long term effects. Mention is made of the collaboration between C and Ca and the cement additives association to assess the current state of flowing concrete technology. /TRRL/" @default.
