- W83726928 abstract "Antecedentes. No registramos otras diferenciasde importancia. Argent., 2013, 19(2): 126-132).Palabras clave: melanoma maligno cutaneo, region glutea, distribucion anatomica, mujeres, epidemiologia.Cutaneous melanoma of the buttocks in young womenBackground. Incidence of cutaneous melanoma (CM) in young women is rising. In recent years we observed several CM located in the buttocks (CMB). This called our attention, and we decided to analize the characteristics of these patients.Objective. To describe the epidemiological and histological characteristics of CMB patients over a 22 year experience and compare them to those CM of other locations.Design. Retrospective, descriptive and observational study.Methods. We analyzed 960 patients with CM treated between 9/1990 and 9/2012. All CMB were diagnosed in women: 13/960 (1.35%). We compared the characteristics of these patients with the other female patients with CM. We considered age, phototype, eye and hair color, history of atypic nevus syndrome or CM in the family, location, histologic subtype, Breslow thickness, Clark level and ulceration.Results. Median age was clearly different between both groups, CM: 50 vs CMB 33 yearsat diagnosis (only two patiens were 50+ years). Median Breslow thickness was higher in CM:0.8mm vs CMB:0.6mm. We did not find other differences between the groups.Conclusions. In this short series we saw an increase in the number of CMB. This occurred mainly in young women. We believe this can be related to changes in sun exposure habits (intermitent exposure/sun tan beds), and clothing (smaller bathing suits that expose the skin of the buttocks). According to this findings it seems useful to insist in sunscreen protection in all sun-exposed body areas and to include always this site in dermatologic exams(Dermatol. Argent., 2013, 19(2): 126-132).Keywords: cutaneous malignant melanoma, anatomic distribution, buttocks site, women, epidemiology" @default.
