- W840330670 abstract "This chapter examines what inherent characteristics of corporal punishment of children are so morally obnoxious as to warrant its classification as a human rights violation by the international community. Corporal punishment implicates concerns of right and wrong because subjecting children to violence against which adults are protected is unfair as unequal treatment. The chapter discusses information derived primarily from the following sources: correlational studies; meta-analyses of correlational, longitudinal, and experimental studies; literature reviews of some such studies; theoretical contributions; two quasi-experimental longitudinal studies bearing on causation; and anecdotal evidence in the form of a clinical psychologist's observations of some of his patients who were corporally punished as children. Corporal punishment of children intentionally, gratuitously, and unfairly causes pain and may cause other physical and psychological harms possibly persisting throughout each victim's life. Keywords: corporal punishment of children; human rights violation; international community; unequal treatment" @default.
